Kalashnikov-wielding attacker opens fire on sunbathers at Tunisian resort, killing 37 and wounding 36
A young man unfurled an umbrella and pulled out a Kalashnikov, opening fire on European sunbathers in an attack that killed 37 people at a Tunisian beach resort — one of three deadly attacks from Europe to the Middle East on Friday that followed a call to violence by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant extremists.
Health Ministry spokesman Choukri Nafti said another 36 people were wounded in Friday’s attack and two or three of them are in critical condition.
The killings in the Tunisian resort of Sousse happened at about the same time as a bombing at a Shiite mosque in Kuwait which killed at least 25 and an attack on a U.S.-owned factory in France that included a beheading. It was unclear if the violence was linked but it came days after the ISIL militants urged their followers “to make Ramadan a month of calamities for the nonbelievers.”
The attack in Tunisia, the country’s worst ever, comes just months after the March 18 assault on the national museum in Tunis that killed 22 people, again mostly tourists, and has called into question the newly elected government’s ability to protect the country.
James Horner, the consummate film composer known for his heart-tugging scores for Field of Dreams, Braveheart and Titanic, for which he won two Academy Awards, died Monday in a plane crash near Santa Barbara. He was 61. Horner was piloting the small aircraft when it crashed into a remote area about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, officials said. An earlier reportnoted that the plane, which was registered to the composer, had gone down, but the pilot had not been identified. "We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent."
Miley Cyrus loves getting naked. Like...a lot. So much so, she threw in a last minute addition to an item she was auctioning off, some "art" in which Cyrus had bedazzled a few Vanity Fair covers featuring Caitlyn Jenner. The art was also signed by Jenner herself, but Miley didn't think the almost settled price at $65,000 was enough. Auctioned for the amfAR’s Inspiration which benefits the fight against HIV/AIDS, Miley took the mic adding one more prize in order to get the price up a little higher.
My left boob is awkwardly bigger than my right one, and I’ll show you the left one if we can get it to … all right — we’re at $65 — what about $69? Sixty-nine. I’ll clean your house. Naked.
I enjoy how it escalated from "I'll show you my boob" to "I'll clean your house naked" in a matter of milliseconds. Cyrus in the house, classin' up the joint!
P. Diddy used his fists instead of his words to hash out his issues with fellow rapper Drake. The two performers got into a heated scuffle at LIV nightclub in Miami Beach this month because of the success of Drake’s song “0 to 100/ The Catch Up,” according to TMZ. The single, created by producer Boi-1da, was reportedly first given to Diddy, but when he “sat” on the song, Drake took it for himself. While the track has earned him two Grammy nominations, it also landed Drake in the ER with a shoulder injury. “You’ll never disrespect me again,” Diddy reportedly said before hitting Drake. It looks like all's fair in love and hip-hop
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, a US law enforcement organisation, also raided the headquarters of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) in Miami.
"The indictment alleges corruption that is rampant, systemic and deep-rooted," said US attorney general Loretta Lynch.
"It spans at least two generations of soccer officials who, as alleged, have abused their positions of trust to acquire millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks."
Indictment details:
Bribes linked to commercial deals dating back to the 1990s for football tournaments in the US and Latin America
Nine current or former Fifa officials, including Webb and former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner, charged with corruption
Four individual and two corporate defendants, including former Concacaf general secretary Chuck Blazer and Warner's sons Daryan and Daryll, plead guilty
Alleged scheme "fostered a culture of corruption and greed that created uneven playing field"
"Undisclosed and illegal payments, kickbacks and bribes became a way of doing business at Fifa"
Majority of scheme involved corruption over media and marketing rights to matches and tournaments
The seven Fifa officials arrested were Webb, Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Eugenio Figueredo, Rafael Esquivel and Jose Maria Marin. They now face extradition to the United States.
The Fifa presidential election will take place on Friday as planned despite the arrest of seven Fifa officials on charges they received more than $150m (£100m) in bribes.

The Duggar family is under siege after In Touch Weekly posted a decade-old police report accusing Josh Duggar of molesting five underage girls.
Now, Michael Seewald, father of Jessa’s husband Ben, is speaking out on the matter, while cousin Amy Duggar continues tweeting messages of peace.
In an essay titled, “Grace Greater Than Our Sin,” Seewald asks readers to remember the victims, while forgiving Josh and supporting the Duggar family.
Seewald wrote, "It pains me to see that they are now having to relive the nightmare that had been laid to rest well over a decade ago with Josh's repentance and reformation, but I feel compelled to bring some context and reason to the bloodletting that many are engaging in and to come to the aid of our dear friends and family."
The father of seven insisted the victims should "not be lost in all of this."
FORD BRINGS DYNAMIC CAR-SHARING EXPERIMENT TO LONDON; FIRST SERVICE TO OFFER ONE-WAY TRIPS WITH GUARANTEED PARKING
Ford will offer Londoners flexible, practical, and affordable GoDrive car‑sharing service; invites 2,000 members to register free for service that offers 50 cars across 20 locations
GoDrive is unique in offering one-way trips with guaranteed parking. Pay-as-you-go approach with pay-per-minute pricing covers all fees. Drivers book and access cars via smartphone app
Zero-emission Focus Electric makes up half of the GoDrive fleet; fuel-efficient Fiesta 1.0-litre EcoBoost available. Service complements existing transport systems for integrated journeys
GoDrive continually evaluates feedback; initial testing highlights strong interest in one-way journeys, easy parking, and simplified pricing. Customers respond positively to electric vehicles
LONDON, May 26, 2015 – Ford Motor Company will begin making its London-based GoDrive car-sharing service available to the public. The service offers flexible, practical and affordable access to a fleet of cars for one-way journeys with easy parking throughout the city.
The project started as one of more than 25 experiments that form Ford Smart Mobility, Ford’s plan to use technology and innovation to take the company to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data. The pilot was called City Driving On-Demand. The application being introduced to the public is called GoDrive.
With the global car-sharing industry expected to exceed $6 billion USD (£3.8 billion) by 2020*, Ford is introducing GoDrive to target on-demand use and gain insight on emerging mobility trends and customers’ car-sharing habits. Ford is exploring the opportunity for car‑sharing services, working with Londoners to better understand their mobility needs and travel and parking patterns.
“As cities become more and more congested, people are becoming increasingly open to new means of mobility, and car sharing is proving to be an appealing model,” said Ken Washington, vice president, Ford Research and Advanced Engineering. “A crucial part of delivering effective car-sharing services is to learn alongside these drivers what best meets their needs and expectations, and complements their location and existing transportation infrastructure.”
Intended to complement existing transport systems for integrated journeys, GoDrive is the only car-sharing service offering one-way trips with guaranteed parking. A pay-as-you-go approach, with pay-by-minute pricing covers congestion fees, insurance and fuel. Drivers use a smartphone app to easily reserve and access a car. Half of the fleet consists of Focus Electric vehicles.
The pilot experiment launched with 100 registered members accessing zero‑emission Focus Electric or fuel-efficient, low-emission Fiesta 1.0-litre EcoBoost models from secure parking hubs near major public transport locations, such as Waterloo and Victoria railway stations. Ford now is inviting 2,000 people to register for a free expanded service offering 50 cars across 20 locations.
GoDrive also is notable for its continued evaluation and improvement through structured learning. Features regularly are added to the service based on learnings and customer feedback.
It is estimated that in the U.K. alone the car-sharing sector will grow by 23 per cent from 2013 to 2025.** A recent Ford-commissioned survey of 5,500 commuters in major European cities found that a majority of people consider their journey to work more stressful than their actual jobs, and 80 per cent of Londoners said they are late for work once a month or more due to hold-ups.***
“Our research tells us that car clubs currently are perceived as inflexible when it comes to booking, time slots and return locations. Features such as one-way journeys and pay-as-you-go extend the number of opportunities that drivers would want to car-share and could prove a game-changer,” said Alicia Agius, project lead, GoDrive, Ford of Europe. “More drivers are finding GoDrive to be a key service that can potentially empower people living in the city with its flexible approach.”
Since its launch earlier this year, feedback on the experiment has been largely positive, with the majority of initial users expressing optimism for the future of Ford in the growing car‑sharing space. Users have cited access to technologies found in Ford’s current model line‑up, such as Ford SYNC and parking assistance features, as a selling point of the project.
Members also highlighted the convenience of a one-charge, pay-as-you-go system that includes the London Congestion Charge (currently £11.50). Drivers can familiarise themselves with the car during a five-minute grace period free of charge. Running costs are displayed via their app.
With the experiment currently in its beta phase, Ford hopes to build on the initial success and gain further insight into user behaviour that will help refine the customer experience. Different weekend and day-hire pricing options, and further on- and off-street parking options will be investigated.
Ford also is exploring car-sharing experiments in Germany, India, and the U.S. that will help the company determine how to best serve global customers as they face new mobility options in the future. Other Ford car-sharing experiments include:
Ford Carsharing, Germany: The first manufacturer-backed, nationwide car-sharing programme incorporating dealerships, has run for two years and recently expanded to 40 dealers in 67 cities with 135 locations. In partnership with large, multi-partner car-sharing company Flinkster, the service allows Ford Carsharing customers to use about 3,600 Flinkster vehicles, and Flinkster’s 270,000 customers to use the Ford fleet. Starting in 2015, customers can access a vehicle with a smartphone app, rather than a customer card
Share-Car, Bangalore, India: Ford is working with Zoomcar to test a sharing concept that would allow small groups, such as co-workers, apartment dwellers and families, to share a vehicle among multiple drivers. The approach helps consumers who can’t afford a car but want the benefits of owning one. The pilot programme is expected to expand to two more communities later this year
Car Swap, Dearborn, U.S.: An experiment using Ford-owned fleet vehicles. Participating Ford employees use a mobile app that allows them to search for a vehicle that meets their needs and negotiate terms of the swap. The experiment will provide an in-depth understanding of how Ford can help make car swapping easier
Dynamic Shuttle, New York and London: Exploring a shareable service that will offer point-to-point pick-up and drop-off on-demand. The experiment aims to better understand the social dynamics and routing requirements of shared transportation for city dwellers
Ford is offering free membership and a £20 free driving credit to new members who sign up to the GoDrive beta programme here https://www.go-drive.com/.
After illegally bringing his two dogs to Australia, Johnny Depp could face up to 10 years behind bars.
The actor, who is currently filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, landed himself in trouble earlier this month when he brought his two Yorkshire terriers to the country on his private jet. He failed to declare them and therefore broke the country’s quarantine laws.
Yesterday, an Australian Senate committee was told that if it goes to court, Depp could receive a sentence of up to 10 years in prison or a maximum fine of AU$340,000 (£172,000). The pilot could also face up to two years behind bars for his role in the situation.
Officials have referred to the case as “very serious”.
The story originated when pictures of Depp taking his dogs to the local groomer surfaced on social media and authorities warned that the dogs would be euthanised unless they were flown out of the country in the following two days.
Depp’s wife Amber Heard has since returned to California with the dogs, named Pistol and Boo. Recent reports suggested that Depp had left the set of the fifth Pirates movie to be with them but his publicist has since denied this.
Sally Kristen Ride (May 26, 1951 – July 23, 2012) was an American physicist and astronaut. Born in Los Angeles, Ride joined NASA in 1978 and became the first American woman in space in 1983. Ride remains the youngest American astronaut to have travelled to space, having done so at the age of 32.After flying twice on the space shuttle Challenger, she left NASA in 1987. She worked for two years at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Arms Control, then at the University of California, San Diego as a professor of physics, primarily researching non-linear optics and Thomson scattering. She served on the committees that investigated the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters, the only person to participate on both.

Floyd Mayweather, in keeping with his "Money" moniker, raked in $200,000 after the Golden State Warriors destroyed the Houston Rockets in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night, 115-80.
Mayweather put up $200,000 to walk away with $400,000 in total. He dubbed it "Splash for the Cash," which, to be honest, is pretty clever.
This was just an ordinary day for Mayweather, as he pulled in a cool $800,000 last weekend.

Apple’s 2015 iPhone lineup has more available storage space than ever before, but many budget-conscious Apple fans still opt for 16GB when buying their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but having only 16GB of onboard storage can quickly become an issue on smartphones that don’t have expandable memory.
If your iPhone is filling up faster than you expected, there may be one simple trick that will free up a surprising amount of space.
If you use Safari a lot to browse the web, watch videos and more, you may have inadvertently clogged up your phone with a shocking amount of website data. As you visit websites, look at images and watch videos, Safari downloads those files into cache and they can really add up over time.
Looking to free up some space? Simply open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and scroll down to Safari. Then scroll to Clear History and Website Data, tap and confirm.
The biggest highlight for the next iPhone is the mobile DRAM upgrade from LPDDR3 to LPDDR4. The memory capacity per iPhone has also doubled from 1GB to 2GB. With the new model scheduled for shipments in the third quarter, Apple’s main mobile DRAM suppliers Samsung and SK Hynix are going to set aside capacities for LPDDR4 production. Using the capacities of 25nm or 20nm processes as references, the next iPhone with its 2GB of memory will effectively consume an additional 20K wafers per month compared with its 1GB predecessors. With the total worldwide DRAM capacity at 1,080K wafers per month, around an additional 2% of it will be given to the production of the next iPhone’s memory.
The next iPhone is very likely to have its minimum storage capacity raised from 16GB to 32GB, so their storage options would range from 32GB and 64GB to 128GB. It is expected that TLC-based NAND flash will be carried on the 64GB and 128GB versions, which TrendForce estimates will also make up over 50% of this year’s next-generation iPhone shipments. TrendForce further finds that owing to the drive from the next-generation models, approximately 18% of all NAND flash consumption this year will come from iPhones.
Force Touch will be Apple’s key technology in touch sensor development
There is a strong possibility that the next iPhone will feature Apple’s “Force Touch” technology, which is a pressure-sensitive touch module that produce different commands and feedbacks depending on how long or hard the user presses the touchscreen. The Force Touch module will be a notable improvement in the smartphone touch displays as it adds many potential functions. The design of this new touch technology is likely to have a flexible printed circuit (FPC) that is located under the LCD module to control the sensor. The U.S.-based Analog Devices Inc. is the expected candidate supplier of the next iPhone’s Force Touch sensor ICs, which will come with a firmware designed by Apple.
Force Touch requires the support from apps in order to maximize its functional relevance. Even if this technology is available on the next iPhone, it might not offer noticeable improvements in user experience due to the lack of supporting apps. Nonetheless, Force Touch represents an important milestone in Apple’s innovation in the touch sensor technology, and whether it will appear on the iPhone and iPad series is going to be a topic closely followed by the market watchers.
LED backlight gets smaller for a lighter and thinner body
Apple stays with its Japanese suppliers for the LED chips used in the next iPhone's backlight. Due to the popular demand for lighter and thinner phones, the next iPhone is also going to see a size reduction for its backlight LED package, from 0.6t (3.0 x 0.85 x 0.6mm) to 0.4t (3.0 x 0.85 x 0.4mm). However, a smaller size package means that each LED package will have its brightness reduced by about 10%. Therefore, an additional two to three LEDs will be needed in the module to compensate for the loss in brightness. As for the next iPhone’s camera flash LED, its design will still be based on the dual-flash LED technology, which uses two LEDs of different color temperatures to create a more natural light when shooting.
The offending ugly habit of many dog owners do not clean up after their pets, a group of young people gathered around the initiative "Novi Sad is You" decided that an appeal and the distraction and offer a potential solution to this problem, by setting the board with the message and bags for dog droppings on the quay in Novi Sad (Serbia).
The Monaco Grand Prix is the one race of the year that every driver dreams of winning. Like the Indy 500 or Le Mans, it stands alone, almost distinct from the sport from which it was born. A combination of precision driving, technical excellence and sheer bravery is required to win in Monte Carlo, facets which highlight the differences between the great and the good in Formula One.
The Armco barrier-lined circuit leaves no margin for error, demanding more concentration that any other Formula One track. Cars run with maximum downforce and brakes are worked hard. Overtaking is next to impossible so qualifying in Monaco is more critical than at any other Grand Prix.
The Portier corner is key to achieving a good lap time around Monaco. It is preceded by the Loews hairpin, the slowest corner in Formula One, and followed by the tunnel, one of the few flat-out sections of the track. Some great names have ended their races in the barriers here, most notably Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.
To win in Monaco places a driver's name on a list that includes many of history's all-time greats.
Both Graham Hill, the man nicknamed 'Mr Monaco', and Schumacher have won it five times, Alain Prost took four victories, whilst Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart each won here three times. But the record of wins in the Principality resides with the Senna, who won in Monte Carlo six times.
The race has been a regular fixture of the world championship since 1955, but in that time the circuit has changed remarkably little. Slight alterations were made for the 2003 event, in particular a new, gentler entry to the Rascasse corner, with even bigger changes in 2004, with a new pit complex and increased spectator capacity.
"The X-Files" fans have been hoping for years that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were actually dating, but in a recent interview with TVLine, Duchovny shot down the rumors.
"The whole thing about Gillian and I dating is so weird," he told the site. "It's never happened, it's not going to happen, we're friends. I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but no, it's not gonna happen. It hasn't happened."
The rumors were refueled last week when Anderson stepped on stage with Duchovny while he was promoting his new album, "Hell or Highwater," at New York City's Cutting Room. They shared a friendly kiss. “I see Gillian, I kiss her hello," he said. "She’s my friend. If somebody gets a picture of that, if it’s on stage and she comes up to sing with me, I’m going to kiss her hello. I wish the show would be enough. I don’t understand why people want more from Gillian and I. I really don’t.
Well, so much for that: A rep for David Duchovny is denying reports that the 52-year-old actor is dating his former X-Files co-star Gillian Anderson.
“It is not true,” his rep told Celebuzz exclusively on Thursday.
The rumors first surfaced on Wednesday, when Celebrity Dirty Laundry published a story claiming that Duchovny and Anderson “have been in a serious relationship for some time now, and she and her children are shacking up with the Californication actor” in Los Angeles.
Coincidentally, on Tuesday, Anderson confirmed that she had split from her boyfriend of six years, Mark Griffiths.
Besides keeping you hydrated, drinking water on the regular, according to recent studies, can aid with weight loss. Filling up on water before a meal helps encourage portion control, and eating foods that contain a lot of water (like fruits and veggies) will fill you up faster, causing you to eat less. A small study even found that drinking cool water can speed up metabolism and discourage cravings for sugary drinks like soda and juice. Now that's a reason to stay hydrated!
YOU THINK WALKING YOUR DOG IS ENOUGH
A 15-minute stroll is better than nothing, but don't expect to see dramatic weight-loss results. You've got to kick it up a notch - big time - and do at least 30 minutes a day of heart-pumping exercise. Big calorie and fat burners include running, spin class, interval training, hiking, and circuit training.
YOU OVEREAT HEALTHY FOODS
Nuts, avocados, whole wheat pasta, olive oil, and dark chocolate are all natural and healthy, but they aren't void of calories. You still need to watch how much you eat of the good stuff. For example, avocado offers a ton of health benefits, but an entire fruit is over 200 calories.
YOU ONLY DO CARDIO
If you live on the treadmill but never lift a pound, then you're missing out on one of the most important pieces of the fitness puzzle. Not only does weight training prevent injury by strengthening the joints, but it also builds muscle mass and increases metabolic rate. Bonus: thanks to a revved-up metabolism, you'll keep burning calories long after you've slipped off your sneakers.
YOU EXERCISE WITH AN EMPTY STOMACH
If you regularly exercise without eating first, you should reconsider: when you work out on an empty stomach, research shows that the calories burned come from muscle, not fat. Since muscle burns more calories than fat, the more muscle mass you have, the better it is for weight loss. Not only will fueling your body help you avoid losing muscle, but also, you'll have more energy to push yourself through your workout.
YOUR PARTNER ISN'T ON THE SAME HEALTHY ROAD
A partner who's on a similar path can be a huge help to your weight-loss goals, but if your partner is not on board, then your relationship may be making you fat. You can't expect to lose weight if your husband constantly suggests ordering takeout, wants to go out for ice cream, or encourages you to sleep in instead of hitting the gym! Communicating that you need his support in losing weight is a great first step in finding compromises - for both of you. For starters, the next time you have dinner out, offer to split an appetizer or skip dessert.
YOU LEAVE OUT ENTIRE FOOD GROUPS
Giving up entire food groups can lead to a nutritional deficiency - not to mention trigger major cravings for whatever food has been cut. Rather than, say, eliminating all carbohydrates, focus on whole grains and remember to monitor portion control. Usually it's the extra servings that add to your waistline, not the pasta itself.
YOU DON'T SLEEP ENOUGH
Making time for your workouts can mean less time for sleep, but it's important to get enough z's if you're trying to lose weight. You need extra energy to keep up with your exercise routine, and skimping on sleep can affect your body's ability to control its appetite: not enough shut-eyeincreases appetite-stimulating hormones.
YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH VEGGIES
Eating five to seven servings of fruits and veggies a day is important for everyone, but dieters who go heavy on the produce are more likely to lose and keep the weight off, since a diet full of plant-based foods offers a greater variety of nutrients with fewer calories - and all that fiber keeps the body feeling fuller longer.
YOU EAT WHILE STANDING UP
Standing at the fridge or the counter to chow down isn't saving time or energy and can lead to mindless eating. It's best to designate time for snacking and meals that's set apart from other activities.
YOU WEAR CLOTHES THAT ARE TOO BIG
Loose clothes are comfy, but they cover up the body and allow you to forget what you look like, which can work against your fitness motivation. Instead, opt for clothes that have a more fitted silhouette to help give you a sense of your body image. Or better yet, start the day in your gym outfit to inspire you to do something active.
YOU'RE ON A DIET. WELL, SORT OF
Whether you're on Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or your own diet-and-exercise plan, you can't do it halfheartedly and expect to see results. Stay committed to your plan, or you'll see the pounds stay on your tush instead of dropping from the scale.
YOU'RE ADDICTED TO CONDIMENTS AND TOPPINGS
A salad is one of the healthiest meals you can have, but when you top it with bacon bits, goat cheese, nuts, dried fruits, and ranch dressing, you can double the calorie amount in a flash. Be aware of how many calories your favorite salad extras add on. For instance, 10 croutons is an easy 100 calories.
YOU DON'T EAT BREAKFAST
Skipping breakfast may seem like a great way to save calories, but your body will actually hold on to fat because it thinks it's being starved. Keep in mind that people who eat breakfast regularly lose more weight, so make sure to eat breakfast each morning to jump-start your metabolism. Don't just grab anything: include protein to give yourself sustainable energy and fiber to fill you up for hours.
YOU DON'T PRACTICE PORTION CONTROL
When it comes to a balanced diet, we know that portion control is one of the keys to success. Keep measuring cups and spoons on hand to make sure your serving sizes are appropriate, and learn how to give your body the "I'm full" signal in order to help you drop the fork when the time is right and move on with your day.
YOU EAT WITHOUT THINKING
Aligning mealtime with a screen like your computer or the TV can hurt your weight-loss goals. Designating a special time for meals without distractions will help you connect to your food and, as a result, eat less. Sometimes you don't even realize how much you're scarfing when your mind is somewhere else.
YOU DON'T CUT YOUR FOOD
Something as simple as slicing up your dinner can be helpful for your overeating woes. Cutting food into tiny pieces may seem slightly childish, but studies show that humans find smaller portions more satisfying and, as a result, are satisfied with less.
YOU STILL DRINK SODA
Soda offers literally no nutritional benefits, and continuing to drink the beverage is sabotaging your weight-loss goals - even if you only drink diet. Studies have shown that individuals who drink two diet sodas a day or more had waistlines that were 500 percent larger than the nondrinkers. Since quitting soda is no joke, check out this 28-day plan for breaking a cola habit.
YOU DON'T EAT ENOUGH
Don't starve yourself to save calories for later. It'll not only mess up your metabolism, and by dinnertime, that famished feeling will likely cause you to eat more than you would if you weren't starving. Not only is starving yourself not sustainable for continued weight loss, but also, limiting yourself to too-small portions can lead to excess snacking between mealtimes.
YOU DON'T LEAVE TIME FOR FUN
Since stress is shown to cause weight gain by triggering the body to eat more - especially foods high in sugar and fat -- make sure you give yourself time to relax and unwind. And it's an added bonus that so many fun activities (like dancing, hiking, and shopping) are already natural calorie-burners!
YOU OVERINDULGE IN LOW-FAT FOODS
Going for foods with a lower calorie count can be deceiving, since many times they're filled with extra sodium, sugar, or chemical additives to make up for the ingredients the company has removed or decreased. Not only are these light versions less nutritious, but they also end up tasting "lighter," leading you to eat more. You'll probably end up consuming more calories than you would if you just ate a regular-sized portion of the real thing.
YOU DON'T KEEP A FOOD JOURNAL
Writing down what you eat is an essential way to monitor daily caloric intake. Don't think it's worth the effort? A study from the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics surveyed 123 women and found that those who were the most successful at losing weight monitored their food intake by keeping a journal.
YOU'RE ALWAYS DINING OUT
Hitting your favorite restaurant is a great way to unwind, but you're more likely to indulge in a huge meal complete with appetizers, drinks, fried foods, and dessert. Calorie counts are also a mystery, since many foods aren't labeled. If you don't want to give up your nights out, then split a meal with a friend, order healthy options like salads and grilled chicken, and sip water instead of wine. Check out more tips for eating healthy at a restaurant here.
YOU NEVER INDULGE
In an otherwise healthy diet, eating a few french fries or a piece of chocolate cake isn't going to ruin your weight-loss goals. A study found that it isn't necessary to up workout intensity the day after a piece of cake and that a daily variance of as much as 600 calories won't reflect on your waistline, as long as you maintain a healthy diet in the long run.
YOU EAT THE WRONG POST-WORKOUT SNACKS
A post-workout snack is just that - a snack. And unless it's mealtime, what you eat after an average workout should be around 150 calories. Since healthy foods like trail mix can be high in calories, measure out a serving instead of mindlessly chomping straight out of the bag. If you're looking for some ideas, here are 10 post-workout snacks under 150 calories.
