Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher chime in on the death of Elizabeth Taylor on Wednesday. Taylor was in the center of a huge controversy when Eddie Fisher left his lovely, wholesome wife, Debbie Reynolds, to marry Elizabeth Taylor. The world was in an uproar at the time, but now Eddie Fisher’s daughter Carrie and his ex-wife speak out about the death of Taylor.
Debbie Reynolds became famous as the star in “Singin’ in the Rain” as well as other musicals. Just two weeks before Elizabeth Taylor’s death, Reynolds spoke with the one-time sexy, screen icon. Reynolds explained that she said to Taylor, “Getting old is really s---. And she said, 'It certainly is. It certainly is, Debbie. This is really tough.’”
Reynolds went on to speak about Elizabeth Taylor’s death. She said, "God bless her, she's on to a better place. I'm happy that she's out of her pain, because she was in a lot of pain."
At one time, the two actresses went to school together at MGM studio. It is hard to believe, but the two rivals became friends later in life. Debbie Reynolds also said this about Elizabeth Taylor, "She was the most glamorous and sexual star of our generation. No one else could equal Elizabeth's beauty and sexuality. Women liked her and men adored her, and her love for her children is enduring."
It is nice to know that Debbie Reynolds gained peace after Taylor stole her husband, while she was still taking care of two small children at home. Most women would not be as gracious and forgiving as Reynolds. She is truly one classy lady.
Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher
At the time of the tumultuous affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher was only 2 years old. At the time of the Oscar winner’s death, Fisher speaks highly of Taylor.
Fisher stated that Elizabeth Taylor was a “devoted mother” and a “remarkable woman.” It is quite surprising to hear Fisher’s next statement: "If my father had to divorce my mother for anyone, I'm so grateful that it was Elizabeth," she said. "This was a remarkable woman who led her life to the fullest rather than complacently following one around."
Fisher also said that Taylor had "found time to become one of the earliest champions for those living with HIV. She will be missed but never forgotten."
It is incredible that Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher are so forgiving. This begs the question: Are they being so gracious for the media, but are really still holding resentment against Taylor?
