We're looking at the deposition of Michael Vincent, an assistant CSI supervisor with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The home of Casey Anthony
- Note: We’re selecting the documents that are relevant to this story.
In Vincent's deposition, we're able to uncover how Casey's defense is coming together.
Casey's car is one of the biggest pieces of evidence prosecutors will try to use against her.
Jose Baez: What did the car smell like?
Vincent: It smelled like a dead body.
Baez: And how do you know that?
Vincent: Through my experience of dealing with a lot of decompositions.
Baez: How many decomposing bodies have you encountered in your career?
Vincent: Probably anywhere from 30 to 40.
Baez: And how many cars have you dealt with that you've processed that had a bag of garbage in the trunk for 3 weeks?
Vincent: Never.
Science will play a starring role in Casey’s trial, if that science ends up being admitted.
This week, we will hear more in court about air samples taken from the trunk of Casey's car.
According to Vincent, taking those samples was Detective Yuri Melich's idea, despite Vincent's 20 years of CSI experience.
Baez: Have you ever done anything of that nature?
Vincent: Done what?
Baez: Collect air samples.
Vincent: No. That's the first time I had any dealings with collecting air samples.
The lab in Tennessee that processed those air samples is the subject of the story we’ll bring you Tuesday.
That same lab looked for buried human remains from the Charles Manson case in California, and that search happened just a few years ago.
What did they find? And what's the connection with the Casey Anthony case? Find out at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
On Wednesday, there are scheduled to be three days of critical scientific hearings in the case against Casey.
Attorneys on both sides will debate hair found in the trunk Casey's car, the so-called "smell of death" in the trunk and the alleged presence of chloroform.
The judge will decide if this evidence will or will not be heard by the jury in Casey's upcoming murder trial.
