A 6.0 magnitude earthquake rumbled in the mid-Atlantic off the coast of South America on Tuesday, US seismologists said, the region's latest seismic activity after last year's 8.8 magnitude quake that flattened parts of Chile.
The quake struck at 1331 GMT and was centered some 2,789 kilometers (1,733 miles) east southeast of Campos, Brazil.
Earthquake-prone central Chile was rattled Wednesday of last week by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake.
Chileans are still jittery after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the country in February 2010. That quake and subsequent tsunami killed 524 people.
