Lu Xian, 25, and his wife Lien Yu, 23, refused to allow a small thing like an earthquake get in the way of their big day even though the tremors had destroyed the temple and most of the houses in their village in Yingjiang country, Yunnan province in southwestern China

The Yunnan earthquake was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake earlier this month that left 27 people dead and hundreds injured.

But the couple refused to put off their big day and invited everybody in the region to join the celebration.

"Our houses were destroyed, but the wedding date of the children had long been fixed, so the wedding should go as planned, and we invited everyone to share in our happiness to bring luck to the region," the bride’s father Xian Dongyuan said.

Dozens of extra tables were bought in to Hufei village to see the extra guests and many others donated food and bought gifts for the new couple.

Lu and the Xian added: "The gifts were very useful to have but we are going to have to work on our house now to repair it so we have somewhere to store them all.

"But this shows that life goes on even after something so terrible."
