Gary Johnson tops Google Trends after GOP presidential hopefuls debate in Orlando

Voters want to know more about former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.
Johnson, who served two terms as New Mexico’s governor from 1995 to 2003, stole the show at a gathering of GOP presidential candidates Thursday night in Orlando. He managed to do so with a mere four minutes of speaking time.
Internet users, intrigued by his promise to balance the federal budget in his first year as president and his one-liner about his neighbor’s dogs creating more “shovel-ready jobs” than the Obama administration, propelled him to the top of Google Trends for most of Thursday evening and into the wee hours of Friday morning.
If pollsters have the ethics to begin including him presidential preference polls, look for Johnson’s star to rise. And once Republican voters wake up to the fact that their actual votes will determine the GOP nominee (not media fascination with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry) things will only get better for Johnson.
As of 4:30 a.m. EDT Friday, a Fox News poll on who won the Orlando debate had Johnson coming in second behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul.
